There is always the option of using cloud services, such as DropBox, Google Drive, OneDrive and more, but these are often paid monthly subscription services, involve your data being shared across other services and (most worrying of all) leaves your precious data in a position to be used for analytics without your knowledge OR open to hacking because of the sheer size of the target. Add to this the fact that in most cases, a severed connection to the internet means a severed connection to your data, and the appeal of moving away from 3rd party cloud and on to a NAS is pretty clear. The industry of NAS has been in constant growth for over 30 years, with big players like HP, Dell and IBM steadily losing the home and SMB market to the likes of Synology, QNAP and more. The brand diversity in the field of NAS servers has continued to grow right up until 2021, with the benefit that the way you can interact with your data, what NAS devices can do and the price point of this technology being exceedingly affordable (with fully featured solutions WITH storage media arriving as low as £200). So, today I want to talk about what NAS is, what a NAS can do, and which NAS Brand you should consider buying in 2021. This description contains links to and Amazon. New Feature - Virtualisation Station Live Migration Demo - With our 3.5.3 update to our free application, Virtualisation Station, you are now able to migrate Virtual Machines from one NAS to another without powering them down. This demo used a TS-h886 and a TVS-882T with an Ubuntu Linux Virtual Machine live migration task sent between them. Virtualization Station adds incredible versatility to your NAS. From using your NAS as a PC by connecting a keyboard, mouse, and HDMI display to creating private virtual networks between VMs, you can also use USB and GPU* pass-through to provide your VMs and NAS with greater functionality and performance. With built-in data protection features such as Snapshots, VMs can easily be protected against failure and data loss. Virtualization Station supports various modern and legacy operating systems, from Microsoft Windows XP to Windows Server, as well as popular UNIX-like systems such as Ubuntu, Red Hat, CentOS, FreeBSD and Sun Solaris. A built-in Access Control List (ACL) allows you to easily manage access to specific virtual machines. You can assign either control or view-only permissions of each VM to specific users. Virtualization Station allows you to centrally monitor and manage every VM while allocating resources such as CPU, memory, and storage capacity. Virtualization Station allows you to access USB devices* connected to the NAS from one or many VMs. GPU pass-through is also supported by specific models with suitable power supplies to allow the usage of a compatible graphics card to empower VMs with higher processing capabilities and OpenGL and DirectX support. NAS Brands in 2021 – Which One Should You Choose? 🤍 Buying your first Network Attached Storage (NAS) device can be a remarkably daunting task! Even for the most technologically knowledgable, a NAS is a very different kind of device than most of the hardware in your environment. At its heart, it is just a computer (like most things are when you break them down to the basics) that is built for a specific task. However, there are numerous elements of a NAS (such as it always being ON, the constant remote accessibility and focus on storage primarily) that set it apart from most other devices, and this si where a lot of people get a bit intimidated by it. QNAP has been remarkably loud with their 2022/2023 generation of NAS releases in the first half of the year, with updates to practically all the home/Prosumer/SMB solutions in their portfolio. However, it appears that things have not stopped there, with the reveal of a new mid-range NAS series that (based on the hardware on offer) is a change in what many might have been expecting. The new QNAP TS-253E and TS-453E NAS manage to arrive in the brand's more cost-effective external chassis (such as the TS-251+ and TS-451D2), but feature internal and external hardware choices that put them much, MUCH closer to the TS-453D and TS-464! This new series arrives with 2021/2022 generation Intel Celeron J6412 CPU, 8GB of DDR4 Memory by default, 2.5GbE ports, M.2 NVMe SSD slots, USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10G) and looks to be lower in price than the TS-x64 series. So yeah, these new TS-253E and TS-453E are going to be extremely appealing to users who want the best bang for their buck, but do not want to waste their time on ARM-powered systems. let's talk about everything we know about these new and honestly quite intriguing NAS drives. QNAP Network & Virtual Switch explained

21.09.2021

Network & Virtual Switch supports various network interfaces for allocating network resources. Network & Virtual Switch enables a NAS running multiple applications and virtualization services to connect virtual networks with LAN and WAN for efficient communication and optimal performance of virtual network infrastructure. In Network & Virtual Switch, you can instantly view network interface information (including network cards, wireless cards, Thunderbolt cards). You can also configure and manage IP address, VLAN, Port Trunking and USB/PCIe Wi-Fi connections. Virtual Switch connects physical ports with Virtual Machines and Containers running on NAS and supports TCP/IP, IPv6, Wi-Fi and Thunderbolt interface protocols. Virtual Switch not only offers central management over LAN, WAN, wired and wireless networking on NAS but also allocates network resources for virtual machines and containers in Virtualization Station and Container Station, allowing for the deployment of a highly efficient and secure virtual network on NAS. Bridged mode Virtual switches allow multiple hosts/servers in LAN to access virtual services on NAS-based virtual machines and containers. For example, an Apache server on a virtual machine can access the MySQL database in a container. Isolated mode Creates a secure, closed, virtual network for performing functional verification, internal data computing and Sandbox testing. If Internet access is temporarily needed, DHCP and NAT can be used in isolated mode. External mode Assign a dedicated Ethernet port to the virtual network. All packets bypass the NAS and go directly to the physical network, ensuring that the bandwidth of the specific Ethernet port can be fully utilized by the virtual device. 🤍 Follow us on twitter - 🤍 Like us on Facebook - 🤍 Follow us on Instagram - 🤍 Visit our website – 🤍 Technical Support (UK) - 🤍 Product Compatibility - 🤍 Where to buy your QNAP NAS Amazon - 🤍 SPAN.com - 🤍 Broadbandbuyer - 🤍 Box.co.uk - 🤍 Ebuyer - 🤍

FULL RetroArch and QNAP NAS Installation Guide here - 🤍 Use the HDMI on yoru NAS to host a fast, easy and extremely fun Arcade Gaming mame supporting Mame, Sega, Nintendo and other Retro Roms 🤍 A Big, big thank you to the QNAP NAS Community for this and QNAP_Stephane for creating a post about this cool feature - 🤍 RetroArch is most popularly known for being a program with which you can play many emulators and games, which have all been customized and tailor-ported to the libretro API. HDSTation : 🤍 Note : unzip, install within HDStation menu, Enjoy Note fully tested, dont have joystick to see if it is compatible with HDStation environment please follow documentation for setup It is designed to be fast, lightweight, and portable. It tries to be on the cutting edge of technology in terms of technolog supported as well as trying to be as backwards compatible as possible, a paradoxical goal if any. It has features few other dedicated games / emulators have, such as: Real-time rewinding and GGPO netplay Libretro’s serialization support allows features such as rollback based netplay to be easily implementable. It also allows you to rewind your games in real-time. Multi-pass shaders (up to 8-pass) It was one of the first programs out of the gates to have frontend shader support to begin with. RetroArch has its own shader spec that is being extensively used and implemented by various other programs unrelated to RetroArch/libretro. It is also one of the only programs of its kind that supports up to 16 shader passes along with up to 128 shader parameters supported. You can find many impressive shaders that can enhance the in-game look of a game. Game aware shading Remote networked sound support A built-in GUI/OSD system RetroArch can change its entire appearance with a few button clicks. It can turn into a low-resolution but functional UI (RGUI) into a full-fledged XMB clone, and so on. Impeccable Linux support RetroArch was first out of the gates in many respects with support for Wayland, DRM/KMS, and many other graphics technologies which are still not standard in many Linux programs. It is designed to be as dependency-less as possible while also making it possible for custom-made versions of RetroArch to be made with specific support for several new APIs. Unlike many other programs, Linux is not treated as second-class citizen but as first-class citizen. Impeccable backwards compatibility How many other Mac programs support PowerPCs, 32bit and 64bit Intel Macs all at the same time ? Libretro/RetroArch keeps platforms alive with new content long after they have passed their expiration date. See PlayStation3, PSP, Wii, Gamecube, etc. The list goes on. A cross-platform game console The goal for Retroarch is to have a game console platform unrestrained by platform boundaries and architecture differences. To this end, it strives to support as many platforms as possible. And more… What platforms does it support? Linux (x86 and x86_64) Windows (32bit/64bit) Mac OSX (Intel/PowerPC) Playstation 3 (PS3 SDK) PlayStation Portable (PSP) PlayStation Vita/TV Xbox 1 (XDK) Xbox 360 (XeXDK/Libxenon) Gamecube Wii Nintendo 3DS Raspberry Pi (and various other ARM hardware through Lakka) GCW Zero Android Blackberry (10/Playbook) iOS Javascript (ASM.js – Enscripten) Find out what is new in NAS by visiting me on the Blog - htto://NASCompares.com Need Free NAS advice? How to Improve Performance of a QNAP VM Using Virtio Drivers

If you want to bypass the initial benchmarks and go straight to the installation of the Virtio drivers, skip to 4:45. In this video, I show you how install the VirtIO drivers in a Windows Server 2016 virtual machine, running in the Virtualization Station of a QNAP TS-451. I also perform some simple disk and network benchmarks before and after the install. Please note that the website for the virtio driver has changed (at the 4:50 mark). It is now: 🤍 Thanks to Fenghe Xe for the tip. Excellent tip from Pit if you have the same use case: If you're already using two IDE-based harddisks like c:\ (Boot) and d:\ (Data) in your Windows 10 VM you will probably get an error message like "No bootable device found" after switching the interface on c:\ to "VirtIO". d:\ works like a charm but your boot device will stuck with the "IDE"-interface no matter what. The solution is very simple: Shutdown your virtual machine. Go to your Windows-VM-"Settings". Click "Storage". Delete all hard disks - not the hard disk image itself! - except for the boot hard disk (c:\). Now change the interface from the boot hard disk to "VirtIO". Boot your virtual machine. This should work without an issue. Shut down your VM. Go to "Settings" and "Storage" again - and "Add device". Add your hard disk image (d:\) and set the interface to "VirtIO". Done! No Windows re-installation, no fiddling with drivers... In this series of short videos, we will talk you through how to setup VMware on your QNAP NAS. This video will cover how to install and configure VMware's VAAI technology. Systems used. 2 x HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 Plus Intel Xeon E-2224 16GB RAM TS-h886-d1622-16g with 2 x IronWolf 510 NVMe 480GB SSD, and 6 x IronWolf Pro 12TB HDD's running QuTS Hero 4.5.1 VMware ESXi/vSphere 7.0 Virtualization applications supported by QNAP NAS QNAP NAS supports a wide range of mainstream virtualization applications in order to help IT administrators increase the efficiency of virtualized environments in their organization. VMware vSphere VMware® vSphere™ is the industry's first cloud operating system that offers one way to reduce IT costs and increase responsiveness. QNAP VMware® Ready™ products have been certified as compatible with the VMware® vSphere™ virtualization platform. IT administrators of small businesses and workgroups can now use a QNAP VMware® Ready™ NAS as an affordable and powerful storage solution in VMware® virtualized environments. VAAI VMware vSphere® Storage APIs – Array Integration (VAAI) offloads specific storage operations for improved performance and efficiency. With a QNAP NAS and VAAI, standard virtual machine management operations and deployment can be performed faster, using less ESXi CPU, memory, and bandwidth. QNAP NAS supports VAAI for iSCSI and VAAI for NAS. VAAI for iSCSI supports Full Copy (hardware-assisted copy), Block Zeroing (hardware-assisted zeroing), Hardware-assisted Locking, and Thin Provisioning with Space Reclamation. VAAI for NAS supports Full File Clone, Extended Statistics, and Reserve Space. VMware vCenter Server Features Simple Deployment Quickly deploy vCenter Server as a pre-packaged, optimized, and easy-to-maintain virtual appliance. Integration of vSphere Update Manager into vCenter Server Appliance makes patching and upgrading fast and easy. RESTful APIs allow for the easily repeatable deployment of vCenter Server Appliance from a template, speeding up deployment times as well as reducing human error. Proactive Optimization Allocate and optimize resources for maximum efficiency with our server management software. Manage up to 70,000 virtual machines and 5,000 hosts across 15 vCenter Server instances. Use vSphere HA and DRS clusters to support up to 64 hosts and 8,000 virtual machines. Replicate roles, permissions, and licenses across the infrastructure so you can simultaneously log in, view, and search the inventories of all vCenter Servers. Link multiple vCenter Server Appliances and increase visibility without using costly load balancers. Plug-in Extensibility vSphere Client Plug-ins from VMware partners allow IT admins to manage third-party elements in their data center directly from vCenter Server. Our server management software has the largest partner ecosystem in the industry, with our open vSphere Client Plug-in SDK. As a result, vCenter Server customers can implement back-up, data protection, server management, network management and security management, directly from vCenter Server. VMware launched the vSphere Client Plug-in Certification Program in 2016 to ensure a better end-user experience for customers. Certified Plug-ins deliver optimal performance, better security model, client isolation against failures in one plug-in, and enhanced vCenter Server Appliance scalability. Customers will be able to distinguish certified vSphere Client Plug-ins because only certified Plug-ins will carry the "VMware-ready" logo. Extensibility and Scalability Across Hybrid Cloud Seamlessly extend your on-premises environment to vSphere-based public clouds, such as VMware Cloud on AWS, no matter which version of vCenter Server you are running. Large-scale management is now improved: Manage up to 2,000 hosts and 35,000 virtual machines with a single vCenter Server instance. Centralized Control and Visibility Administer your entire vSphere infrastructure from a single location. The HTML 5-based vSphere Client lets you manage the essential functions of vSphere from any browser, offering more responsiveness and usability than ever before. Assign users to custom roles, search vCenter Server inventory, or provision new virtual machines with the click of a button. 🤍 🤍 🤍
