I rarely leave the farm - lets just be honest here .. first and for most - - when I decided to be gone at the encouragement of Jason & our families to better myself .. we asked Jason's non-farming cousins to come up for a few days to help still get some projects done while I was away Chris who has been in a few videos over the summer (its his MINI. We are #WieczorekFarms ... Spring is here ... and what’s that mean for farmers?!?! 🌼🌸🌺🌸🌼 Well ....... at Wieczorek Farms, LLC , we’re already planning and gearing up for the 2021 season to start!! 🍀 For us Hay Farmers or I like to call us “Grass Farmers” these days ... because really that’s what we are ... growing grass not just to harvest hay but also growing grass for livestock too!! And I’ll be real blunt - Jason’s pretty darn good at it ... but like anything - there’s always room for improvement !!! In true fashion - it was spur of the moment because it wasn’t raining ... even if I had other things on my to do list. We spent Monday morning for several hours driving to our different fields soil sampling & checking on the progress of the growth. So WHY soil sample?!?! 🌱 Soil sampling is important as it; Measures the nutrients that are left in your field following harvest. Tells you which nutrients are lacking or are in excess throughout the soil in a field. We are #WieczorekFarms - Delivery Day Wednesday !!! Tag along as the kids chitchat more abo it their Farm raised Chickens. They’re anxiously waiting for warmer weather & our local Farmers Market to be opening. If you’re local stop in and get a dozen of their farm fresh eggs 🥚 We’ve been sending hay out left and right. This hay is 2020 baled. And many of asked how we sell or contract hay. I’ll try to hit on that more in the upcoming videos. But in the short. We don’t contract any because each year is a little different. We have repeat clients and barns we keep full all year along as well as sell it to new customers too. Tag Along as we deliver a load of hay Friday ... and we didn’t even have to unload it! They had a grapple system just like ours. Super easy peasy that’s for sure! We start in on second cut Hay! We baled 1200 before it got too tuff for the evening. Cooler weather starts playing a huge difference in how our baling goes. We are SOOO close to hitting my birthday goal of 5000 by the 25!!! This weather and other farm life things have slowed us down in the fields ... but that’s okay! We still got a lot of things accomplished. Here’s a few clips over the last week of July. • Sunday I got to ride fence lines with Leo (see Vlog 106!) • Monday we worked on sorting off some calves and bringing home Oreo (who we got up to sell on Thursday) and 31 with her calf who had a Respiratory issue. We also spent the better part of the day working on Trenching some of the Springs on a section of land at the Creek Farm. We have it blocked off with poly wire so that the cows couldn’t come down and make a “mud hole” of a mess. Lessons learned from last summer!!! • Tuesday the boys worked on putting drain tile in the trench while I worked on Making Oreo “pretty” again for the Thursday Sale. • Wednesday we delivered several loads of hay in the mist of it raining and the guys working in the shop on both semis - Johns needed a transmission and Jason’s has some air to air issues (?) • Thursday was sell day for Oreo! While bitter sweet to “show” her off it reminded me of doing the fairs and showing livestock. It took me back to 10 years ago! And more rain so it was a nice “day off” .... May is National #Beef Month - Did you know that over the last five years, the number of male farmers fell, while the number of women rose??? Female producers now make up 36 percent of farmers, a 27 percent increase from 2012. We are #WieczorekFarms & proud to be a First Generation Farm Family - Baling Hay, raising cattle & kids - to sharing our farm story right here!!!! Thanks for taggin along! ☀️ In today’s video Moe our #farmintern has stepped up to really be willing to do it all & learn how to do things safely and properly at the farm - us girls are left to finish choring the Fall Cow Calf Pairs while the boys run home to sell more hay. 🐮 We also finally have Cow # 18 calve ... she had mastitis (an infection in her udder) over the summer. I was patiently waiting for her to drop that calf to insure it got the proper nutrition (colostrum) from the git go ... she gave us our second “Slayer” Calf of the 2021 Season ... a whopping 96 pound Bull Calf. He was nursing just fine & we turned them back out to the Creek Farm Pasture were we practice rotational grazing. 🌱 Moe takes on driving the CASE IH JX80 & hay trailer while I flake off the Alfalfa Big Squares. She stepped right up the to plate when Jason asked if she could handle it today. I knew she could. I am so excited to continue sharing our story along the way. Not only helping to raise our own farm kids but help to install a love of agriculture with Moe too. We’re 5 days into calving & expecting more and Mel each day ... I touch base on how we are approaching calving season a little differently this year .... 🐮 While it’s been nasty & cold ... and brutally honest. Not the ideal weather conditions to start calving - I know mine will be strong & healthy later on if they can survive negative temps & snow drifts. It also helps we are giving them the very best care along side mommas!!! I discuss the importance of getting our calves off to the right track.
