Everything you need to know about the Varia RCT715 Cycling Camera Radar & Light system, from real-world testing to comparisons with other products. The Varia RCT715 takes the existing Garmin cycling radar component, which shows and warns of vehicles and other traffic on your bike computer as it overtakes you, with a rear-facing camera that can automatically record continuously, or only as each car goes past. It also acts as a bike light as before. Further, it has incident detection modes, to automatically save clips if it detects a crash. And beyond that, it has an app that theoretically allows you to download said clips. 0:00 Quick Overview 0:41 The Basic Concept 1:56 The Hardware Components 4:41 Pairing it to bike computer 6:54 Radar portion 8:28 Bike light pieces 10:24 The rearview camera 13:47 The Varia smartphone app 19:02 Footage comparison 20:05 Real Talk Time (Recommendations) #GarminRCT715 #VariaRadar #GarminVaria

Garmin Fenix 7, Solar, and Sapphire In-Depth Review!

Every Fenix 7 new feature examined with real-world testing! From new maps to better GPS accuracy, I dive into whether it's really worth the extra cash. Epix on Amazon: 🤍 (link helps support the channel, thanks!!!) Fenix 7 on Amazon: 🤍 (also helps support the channel!!) This review is instead focused almost entirely on the Fenix 7 series, which includes the Fenix 7S, 7, and 7X models. These units get a slate of new features (depending on which exact model you choose), including everything from workout stamina tracking to free downloadable TopoActive maps. And the 7X even gets a flashlight, which might sound gimmicky at first, but seriously – it’s mind-bogglingly useful and way more advanced than ‘just a flashlight’. It can flash white and red as you run, matched to your cadence – specific to showing white lights while forward-facing, and red lights rearward facing. Yes, actually switching and matched to each footstep. Or, you can signal for SOS with it when you’re out of ice cream. But we’ll get into all those details and plenty more throughout this review. I’ve been testing the Fenix 7 for quite some time, and have put in countless hours to figure out what works well…and what still might need some love. This includes all three core models, as well as its Epix sibling. And this includes a wide variety of conditions from riding and running up volcanos, runs in freezing temps, openwater swims, cities to mountain passes, and everything in between. Oceans, forests, deserts, and more. Garmin Fenix 7/Epix/Instinct 2 Massive May 2022 Feature Update (Plus Other Watches!)

Garmin's just released a massive set of updates to a pile of different watches. Garmin started rolling out this week an update for Fenix 7 & Epix, and Instinct 2 series watches, including some 28-50 different new features (depending on how you want to count them). A smaller chunk of these features is also being rolled out to the Fenix 6, Forerunner 245, 745, 945, and FR945 LTE, plus more to the Venu 2 series and others. But more notably, this is part of a shift for how Garmin is going to do feature updates going forward. And I think it’s largely a good thing, especially combined with some other changes I’ll be writing about in the coming days that shows the company gathering maturity in the software development cycle that it lacked just a few years ago. With that, let’s just get right into things. - The Site ► 🤍 Main Camera ► 🤍 Action Cam ► 🤍 The Drone ► 🤍 All Camera Gear ► 🤍 Instagram ► 🤍 Facebook ► 🤍 Twitter ► 🤍 Strava ► 🤍 Most Music ► 🤍 As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases. Here's a simple test of how well DJI's Mini 3 ACtive track can follow downhill, which is needed for skiing, downhill mountain biking, trail running, kayak tracking, and countless other downhill activities. For this test, I take it out on the trails to see how well it actually works while in Active track mode and descending down 100m below my starting point. Garmin EPIX Long-Term In-Depth Review

Here's your complete Epix in-depth review and 15 New Things to Know, with full accuracy testing, feature comparisons to the Fenix 7 and plenty more! Epix on Amazon: 🤍 (link helps support the channel, thanks!!!) Fenix 7 on Amazon: 🤍 (also helps support the channel!!) No, this isn’t your grandfather's Epix from 2015, but rather, this is Garmin’s new 2nd gen Epix that effectively takes an Epix and elevates it with a full AMOLED color touchscreen display. Now, Garmin officially calls it just ‘Epix’, though you’ll see the 2nd gen bits here and there. In order to save digital typing waste, I’m just going to call it the shortened Epix as well. The Epix Gen2 includes the aforementioned higher resolution and more vivid AMOLED display, but it lacks solar panels or the Fenix 7X flashlight. That’s mainly because solar frankly wouldn’t do much here for this display, and the flashlight isn't quite in the Epix cards for the time being. There are, of course, differences in battery life too, which we’ll get into. But the key thing to know is that even though it has an AMOLED display, it still manages 6 days in always-on display mode – which reaches upwards of 16 days in gesture mode. In other words, for most people, you’re not sacrificing much for a dramatically better display. I’ve been using the Epix now for quite some time, putting it through both daily 24x7 usage as well as workouts and other athletic adventures. Everything from high mountain hiking to ocean swimming, snow-covered escapes, and city testing. All of it in an effort to find out where this watch works well, and where its caveats are. Zwift Cancels Smartbike & Trainer Hardware Plans

Zwift has just announced they're canceling their smart bike and smart trainer hardware plans, as well as laying off upwards of 150 people. Here's more details on what the move means for Zwift, Zwifters, and the greater indoor trainer/cycling industry. Zwift issued a statement acknowledging the layoffs as well as the product line shifts in a statement, saying: “Given the current macroeconomic environment, we have decided to scale back our hardware offering, pausing plans to launch a smart bike. As a consequence, Zwift has implemented difficult, yet important changes to the organisation of the business. We are grateful for the contributions of all those impacted and have done our very best to support them.” As noted above in Zwift’s statement, they cited the current economic climate as a reason for putting the brakes on their hardware. This hardly comes as a surprise, especially for a piece of hardware that was destinated to appeal to the pricier end of the indoor cycling spectrum. While COROS skipped their usual seemingly unofficial monthly new feature updates last month, they’re back at it again this month with a pretty solid update – including both app and firmware features. Below I dive into everything that’s new, and cover which watch these features are available on. Note that for the firmware side, COROS says that the original APEX and PACE watches doesn’t have any more space in the firmware for expansion, hence why they’re excluded. There’s 10 new features, with 8 of them being watch based, and 2 of them being app based. Though, many of the watch based features also enumerate on the app. For example, the sleep tracking bits with sleep phases now show in both places. #COROS #COROSVERTIX2 #COROSPace2

Full In-Depth Review: 🤍 Varia RTL515 on Amazon: 🤍 (link helps support channel, thanks!) Varia RVR315 on Amazon: 🤍 (link helps support channel, thanks!) The Garmin Varia RTL515 & RVR315 are the 3rd generation Garmin Varia cycling radar units. While the RTL515 might not look very different than the prior RTL510, internally its now sporting Bluetooth Smart connectivity for integration with apps like RideWithGPS, as well as Garmin's own Varia radar app. The RTL515 got a very slight bump in battery life up to 16 hours (one more hour). While also gaining a new peloton mode. That mode dims the light when in a group. Meanwhile, the RVR315 gets rid of the light altogether in exchange for a smaller form factor (and less battery lie). Both units support all the ANT+ & Bluetooth Smart connectivity with devices like the Wahoo ELEMNT/ROAM/BOLT, Hammerhead Karoo, Stages Dash L50 and M50. Plus numerous Garmin Edge series devices. Wahoo POWRLINK ZERO Power Meter In-Depth Review: Specs, Accuracy, and More!

22.02.2022

Here's your complete long-term POWRLINK ZERO in-depth review packed with real-world testing and data from boatloads of rides in numerous conditions. From specs to accuracy data, to how the cleats handle and more - I cover it all! This marks not just Wahoo’s first bike-based power meter, but also the first (and only) Speedplay power meter to make it to market. Thus filling a gap in the market for Speedplay devotees that have been left out in the power meter pedal realm. And perhaps more important than all that – I’ve had more than enough time on these units to form a pretty comprehensive picture of how well they perform. I’ve been using the POWERLINK Zero dual-sided power meter pedals since late last spring occasionally, and then since last fall on my road bike as my main pedals. That’s also included intended and unintended off-road adventures too, to test durability. As you’ll see in some later pictures, I’ve literally beaten the snot out of these things – both the pedals and the cleats. So I’m able to dive into not just simple indoor rides, but how they work after being hammered. But this wasn’t the only thing Wahoo announced today. They also announced their new KICKR ROLLR smart trainer, which includes the option for a bundled set of pedals with it – in case you wanted to go for a twofer. You can check out that full in-depth review up there as well. Favero Assioma DUO-Shi In-Depth Review: Shimano SPD-SL Compatible

In-Depth Written Review (with more data): 🤍 Favero has launched their newest Assioma variant today, the DUO-Shi, which simply takes the existing Favero Assioma pedals, but now with Shimano SPD-SL compatibility. Sorta. See, while that’s the end-point, the DUO-Shi product is actually just the pedal spindles (for $589USD or ~589EUR including VAT (VAT inclusive pricing varies based on exact EU country). You’ll need to go out and buy the Shimano SPD-SL compatibility pedals of your own choosing. The good news there is that makes this product roughly $500-$600 cheaper than Garmin’s Rally SPD-SL variant. The bad news is you’ve got an arts and crafts project, plus some other technical things to consider. Don’t worry, we’ll talk about that in a second. In any case, I’ve actually been quietly testing them for more than a *year*. Yes, an actual year. On and off (literally and figuratively), compared to a wide range of power meters, bikes, and smart trainers. Quietly removing them before photoshoots, but otherwise using them just like any other Favero Assioma pedal (because they are exactly the same). 0:00 Quick Overview 2:06 Unboxing & Weight Comparison 4:09 Assemby of pedals 4:54 Installation on bike 6:06 App Setup & Features 7:08 Bike Computer Features & Riding 8:19 A conversion kit? 9:20 Q-Factor Chatter & Pods 13:20 Accuracy Data 17:52 Wrap-Up vs Rally - The Site ► 🤍 Main Camera ► 🤍 Action Cam ► 🤍 All Camera Gear ► 🤍 Instagram ► 🤍 Facebook ► 🤍 Twitter ► 🤍 Strava ► 🤍 Most Music ► 🤍 #FaveroAssioma #SPD-SL #DUO-Shi

This is an in-depth comparison of the bike climbing features between the Garmin Edge series, Hammerhead Karoo 2, and Wahoo ELEMNT/BOLT series. I take these units out into the mountains over the course of 6 months to the Italian Alps (Dolomites), French Alps, Corsica, and Spanish Canary Islands, to see which has the best features. From on-road to off-road/MTB, I cover it all. /// This video is sponsored by The Pro's Closet! Free USA shipping on all bikes $1,000+ with code DCRAINMAKER042 🤍 Note: The Pro's Closet had no technical or editorial control, insight, or anything at all over this video. Literally, they just said 'Have fun!'. So, I did. /// You’ll notice I didn’t list a specific version/model for the three main companies. That’s because from a technical standpoint, the features are equal among their latest units for climbing purposes. Thus, specifically, these units: Garmin: Edge 530, Edge 830, Edge 1030, Edge 1030 Plus Hammerhead: Karoo 1, Karoo 2 Wahoo: ELEMNT, ELEMNT BOLT V1/V2, ELEMNT ROAM For example, there’s no differences between an Edge 530 and Edge 1030 Plus when it comes to climbing features (aside from just screen size). Same goes for Wahoo ELEMNT ROAM vs BOLT. Note that the Edge 130 Plus does have ClimbPro, but just not the coloring since it’s a black and white screen. - The Site ► 🤍 Main Camera ► 🤍 Action Cam ► 🤍 The Drone ► 🤍 All Camera Gear ► 🤍 Instagram ► 🤍 Facebook ► 🤍 Twitter ► 🤍 Strava ► 🤍 Most Music ► 🤍 #Wahoo #Garmin #Hammerhead #Cycling

The 11 New Things You Need to Know about the Garmin Venu 2 Plus, as well as detailed accuracy testing, and whether the new features are worth it. The Garmin Venu 2 Plus aims to be an incremental update over the 7-month-old Venu 2/2S, with the core new features being voice assistants and a speaker for making and receiving calls. This is the first Garmin watch to offer any sort of voice assistant integration, and out of the gate it supports Apple’s Siri, Google Assistant, and Samsung’s Bixby. However, most interesting in my opinion is the ability to take calls on your wrist, and even trigger emergency assistance and safety alerts using voice (which is new to Garmin as well). Plus you can now listen to music using the speaker on the watch if that’s your thing, and it’s surprisingly not horrible. 0:00 Quick Overview 0:39 Watch Size Changes 1:08 New Speaker & Microphone 1:29 Voice Assistants 2:43 Making and Receiving Phone Calls 4:40 Playing Music Using Watch Speaker 5:36 Emergency Assistance Calling 7:45 New Warm-Fuzzy Tones 8:26 Changes in Battery Life 9:17 Bezel and Case Design 9:51 Watch Face Widget Complications 10:37 Things That Haven't Changed 11:43 GPS & Heart Rate Accuracy 13:17 Recommendations - The Site ► 🤍 Main Camera ► 🤍 Action Cam ► 🤍 The Drone ► 🤍 All Camera Gear ► 🤍 Instagram ► 🤍 Facebook ► 🤍 Twitter ► 🤍 Strava ► 🤍 Most Music ► 🤍 #Venu2Plus #GarminVenu2Plus #Venu2

Here's your complete Apple Watch Series 7 sports & fitness-focused deep-dive, complete with real-world testing and data from running outdoors and indoor cycling. Including both optical heart rate and GPS accuracy comparisons against the Apple Watch SE, as well as the Garmin Forerunner 745, and Polar H10 chest strap, as well as the Whoop 3.0 band. I'll first explain the new Apple Watch Series 7 hardware, then the WatchOS 8 sports-specific new features, followed by run and ride testing. After which I'll look at the GPS data & heart rate data to see how it compares accuracy-wise. 0:00 Quick Overview 0:41 New Series 7 Hardware Changes 2:40 WatchOS 8 Sports Features 5:05 Run Testing 6:29 Indoor Bike Testing 7:06 GPS & Heart Rate Data Accuracy 10:19 Sports & Fitness Considerations 11:54 Wrap-up Full list of technical changes to the Series 7 vs the Series 6 and previous units: – Expanded the display: The Series 7 has the largest display to date, some 20% larger than the Series 6, or 50% more screen area than the Series 3. This means the base model went from 40mm to 41mm, and the larger unit went from 44mm to 45mm. – Reduced the bezel: Apple says the bezel (or borders, as they called them) are down to 1.7mm, or 40% thinner than the Series 6, the actual watch dimensions though remain nearly identical to before. – Increased the brightness: Apple says it’s 70% brighter than before indoors, and called out specific scenarios such as glancing at your wrist without moving it to check the time. – Increased durability: Apple says it’s the most durable Apple Watch to date, including a new crack-resistant front crystal that Apple says is 50% thicker than previous models – which they demonstrated twice using a mountain biker crashing directly onto the wrist/watch – Added IP6X Dust Resistance: In the event you find yourself on the wrong end of a playground sandbox fight. It still has WR50 water resistance – Larger user interface buttons: While the external buttons haven’t changed any, the buttons used within the menus have been increased to take advantage of the larger display. Apple noted areas such as the stopwatch, alarms, and activity menu as examples of this. – More text on the screen: The larger screen means that in text messages, Series 7 can fit up to 50% more text than before – New full keyboard: With the larger screen Apple has crammed in a full keyboard onto the display, including both tapping letter to letter as well as swiping between letters. – New Watch Faces: Apple has included a few new watch faces, including one that’s larger and more data-driven for activity/fitness tracking – Battery life remains 18 hours: Yup, still. – New charger design: The new charging design results in 33% faster charging than Series 6 – Fast Charging: The new charging design can go from 0% to 80% in 45 minutes, or 8 hours of sleep tracking in 8 minutes. As one who has oft battled with late-night right before sleep charging, 8 minutes for 8 hours is a brilliant way of phrasing it. – Charger comes with USB-C cable: As opposed to the previous USB-A charging cable. - The Site ► 🤍 Main Camera ► 🤍 Action Cam ► 🤍 All Camera Gear ► 🤍 Instagram ► 🤍 Facebook ► 🤍 Twitter ► 🤍 Strava ► 🤍 Most Music ► 🤍 As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. A new integrated processor and GPU increase graphic power, making it the first watch to support Garmin’s Connect IQ 4.0 app platform – as well as a significantly revamped user interface that feels a bit more modern and polished. Wahoo BOLT V2/2021: 9 New Things To Know!

25.05.2021

It’s been four years since the original Wahoo BOLT was announced, which was arguably Wahoo’s most important bike computer in terms of shifting consumers towards their offerings. Designed to be small and easy to use, it garnered many fans. However, it lacked full onboard routable maps, as well as a color screen. Wahoo then fixed that with the Wahoo ROAM two years ago, albeit in a larger and pricier form factor. But now, the world is righted again, and the new Wahoo BOLT (it doesn’t have any different name) includes a full color screen, full maps, and basically, is a mini Wahoo ROAM. All for $279USD (compared to the ROAM’s $379). There are almost no new unique features that the ROAM didn’t have previously, so if you wanted a cheaper/smaller ROAM, then this is likely for you. Whereas if you were looking for new advanced features from Wahoo, this release doesn’t provide that. Nonetheless, the unit is just as full-featured as that ROAM (actually, more full featured). It’s got full ANT+ & Bluetooth Sensor support, GPS/Galileo/GLONASS connectivity, structured workout support, turn by turn navigation, live tracking, the ability to make Star Wars icons for approaching cars with Varia radar, and phone/text integration. It’s also got one hardware feature the Wahoo ROAM doesn’t: USB-C charging. Yes folks: We finally got the USB-C! 0:00 Intro 0:49 Full Routable Maps 1:40 New Color Display 2:05 Color Zone Data Fields 2:49 Increased storage size 3:40 Included map elevation data 4:11 Buttons, Battery, and Bulk 5:28 USB-C Port Details 6:08 Faster Charging 6:39 Expanded Messaging Support 7:08 And a boatload of issues 9:53 Wrap-up The Site ► 🤍 Main Camera ► 🤍 Action Cam ► 🤍 The Drone ► 🤍 All Camera Gear ► 🤍 Instagram ► 🤍 Facebook ► 🤍 Twitter ► 🤍 Strava ► 🤍 Most Music ► 🤍 #WahooBOLT #WahooBOLT2 #BOLT2021

Wahoo ROLLR Smart Trainer/Rollers In-Depth Review

22.02.2022

Here's your complete KICKR ROLLR In-Depth Review, with full-ride testing - as well as deep-dive into how the KICKR ROLLR works, and who it is (and isn't) for! Trainer & Chill Merch: 🤍 Wahoo has now formally announced their KICKR ROLLR smart trainer…err…smart roller. I’m not super sure how you classify it (Wahoo themselves officially calls it a “smart trainer” in their media release), but whatever it is – it’s here and now properly announced. That’s following it being non-announced last fall at UCI’s Road World Championships, where riders used them in the warm-up tents over the course of numerous days, in the time-trial areas. The KICKR ROLLR however is a bit different than either other smart rollers we’ve seen on the market, or Wahoo’s own smart trainers. The front-end has a stability frame that holds the bike in place, while the rear is able to move around freely. However, unlike all of Wahoo’s existing smart trainers, the KICKR ROLLR requires your bike have a power meter for use with most apps. That’s because no roller company to date has mastered getting even vaguely accurate power on a roller (due to lack of constant pressure on the wheel), and in this case, Wahoo decided against offering power altogether. Instead, it links up to your bike’s existing power meter, and then broadcasts all that together to 3rd party apps. The primary appeal of ROLLR being that it takes no more than 3-5 seconds to put your bike on it. But more on that later on. 09.02.2022

Here's your real-world multi-month review of the Garmin Instinct 2 Series, including the Instinct 2 and 2 Solar, and Instinct 2S Solar. With all the new features tested and detailed, plus accuracy testing and plenty more. With the Instinct 2 series though, no longer is the watch focused entirely on the hiking/general outdoors realm, now it’s a full multisport/triathlon watch too! Complete with everything from power meter support to mountain bike metrics. It supports nearly every sensor type the Fenix series does, along with performance-focused metrics like training load/status, and recovery. Meanwhile, for day-to-day use, it’s now got Garmin Pay (Solar edition only), pregnancy and menstrual cycle tracking, as well as full Connect IQ app support. And like most Garmin wearables, it further extends its battery profile, now officially claiming ‘Forever power’ in more battery categories with the solar editions (don’t worry, I’ll put that to the test too). But we’ll get into all those details and plenty more throughout this review. I’ve been testing the Instinct 2 series for quite some time, and have put in countless hours to figure out what works well…and what falls short. I’ve used the Instinct 2, Instinct 2 Solar, and 2S Solar – as well as recruiting my wife to put in hours and workouts on the Instinct 2S Solar. All of this includes a wide variety of conditions from on and off-road riding and running up volcanos, runs in freezing temps, openwater swims, cities to mountain passes, and everything in between. Oceans, forests, deserts, and more. 0:00 Instinct 2 Overview 0:38 Models Explained 1:48 New Sports Profiles 2:42 Connect IQ Apps/Watchfaces 3:24 Battery & Solar Changes 5:00 Training Load/Recovery/Status 5:49 Power Meters, Sensors and Data 6:56 Optical HR Sensor Upgrade 8:03 Heat & Altitude Acclimation 8:33 Phone-Based Configuration 9:12 Widget Glances 9:34 Tactical Edition Kill Switch 10:38 GPS, Elevation, Heart Rate Accuracy 12:42 Watch Stability & Readiness 13:47 Final Recommendations - The Site ► 🤍 Main Camera ► 🤍 Action Cam ► 🤍 The Drone ► 🤍 All Camera Gear ► 🤍 Instagram ► 🤍 Facebook ► 🤍 Twitter ► 🤍 Strava ► 🤍 Most Music ► 🤍 #Instinct2 #GarminInstinct2 #GarminInstinct

Garmin Rally Power Meter Review: Shimano SPD-SL/SPD/LOOK KEO

24.03.2021

Written review: 🤍 Garmin has launched three new power meters today, all under the new ‘Garmin Rally’ brand, which supersedes the Garmin Vector power meter lineup. The Rally series includes three pedal bodies at this point:  Shimano SPD-SL (road), Shimano SPD (typically off-road/MTB), and Look KEO (which they previously had). However, if there are two takeaways to know from this review, it’s this: The Garmin Rally series power meter is but a spindle that fits into multiple pedal platform types that you can choose from – at least, as long as those choices are Look KEO/SPD/SPD-SL. Which of course, is the vast majority of the endurance sports pedal market, save Speedplay (and Wahoo just solved that last week). The second thing to know is that if you already have Garmin Vector 3 pedals, then you’re also able to take advantage of this pedal portability, and switch between all of the three pedal types above – complete with an even newer battery cap design. 0:00 The Basics 1:14 The Models & Pricing 2:52 Unboxing 3:07 Weights 3:28 Installation 4:21 Cycling Dynamics 5:25 Battery Caps 6:34 Off-road MTB Usage 7:31 Vector 3 History 9:43 Accuracy Testing 13:11 Summary The Site ► 🤍 Main Camera ► 🤍 Action Cam ► 🤍 All Camera Gear ► 🤍 Instagram ► 🤍 Facebook ► 🤍 Twitter ► 🤍 Strava ► 🤍 Most Music ► 🤍 #GarminRally #PowerMeters #Vector3

Zwift's New Smartbike & Trainer (Zwift Ride & Zwift Wheel)

30.12.2021

Zwift appears to have just pre-announced their own new Zwift bike & Zwift trainer, in a hardware purchasing survey that went out to a selection of users. The survey outlined two new Zwift products – a smart bike called the Zwift Ride, and then a direct drive trainer called the Zwift Wheel. Most notably, the Zwift trainer can be upgraded into the Zwift smart bike, which then includes illuminated wheels to basically make yourself a real-world glowing Zwift Tron bike. Seriously! This is the first time we have seemingly real details about Zwift’s previously announced hardware projects. For those just catching up here, Zwift has actually previously confirmed they were building their own indoor training hardware, after posting job listings that made it clear they were. From there, the company has steadily dripped out such plans, largely in CEO interviews, but also in various other ways. - The Site ► 🤍 Main Camera ► 🤍 Action Cam ► 🤍 The Drone ► 🤍 All Camera Gear ► 🤍 Instagram ► 🤍 Facebook ► 🤍 Twitter ► 🤍 Strava ► 🤍 Most Music ► 🤍 #Zwift #ZwiftBike #ZwiftTrainer
