Что такое планктон ? Термин планктон происходит от греческого слова планос , что означает блуждающий . Планктон - это совокупность живых организмов , обитающих в пресных и соленых водах , которые пассивно плавают или по крайне мере , не способны противостоять переносу течениями . Среди организмов могут быть как крошечные почти не различимые растения - микроплантон , так и весьма крупные обитатели вод , такие как медузы с размером от двух метров или гигантские морские водоросли - макропланктон . К планктону относят также икру рыб и личинки других морских организмов . С точки зрения природы парящих в воде организмов различают растительный планктон - фитопланктон , и животный планктон - зоопланктон . Относящиеся к фитопланктону растения обладают способностью превращать неорганические питательные вещества в органические . Масса фитопланктона , состоящего в основном из мелких организмов , составляет , тем не менее , преобладающую часть всего растительного вещества земли . Она примерно в 10 раз превосходит массу всей растительности на суше . Планктон служит пищей другим животным , обитающим в водоемах . Без него было бы невозможным то многообразие жизни , которое наблюдается в воде и на суше .
Первым кто ввёл в обиход термин «планктон» был немецкий зоолог Виктор Ганзен. Произошло это в 1887 году. В переводе с греческого языка планктон означает "блуждающий" или "свободно парящий". Это совокупность миллиардов малоподвижных мелких растительных и животных организмов, которые свободно дрейфуют в толще воды и не могут сопротивляться течению. Изучение планктона привело океанологов к неожиданному философскому выводу. Они поражены тем, что сотни тысяч мельчайших организмов связаны между собой неразрывными отношениями. Именно такие отношения и позволяют выжить планктону в целом. #планктон
